Now these are unique knives! Our skinner/cleavers made their debut in the early 90's and have been turning heads ever since. Just check out the knife catalogs to see how many other manufacturers have copied them! We could see the efficiency of a curved edge the first time we used the traditional native eskimo knife called an ulu (OO-loo). We incorporated the curved edge on our cleavers, and now we offer our own ulus for you to appreciate.

Alaskan Brown Bear
Alaskan Brown Bear Skinner/Cleaver
The Alaska Brown Bear Skinner/Cleaver was the first knife developed by professional Alaskan outfitter and bush pilot, Charles Allen. Made with the serious big game hunter in mind, the Brown Bear has been tested on some of the largest game animals in the world, such as Alaskan moose and brown bear. The Brown Bear is a heavy-duty cleaver and a practicle skinning knife in one.

The Light Hunter
The Light Hunter - Suregrip
The Light Hunter Mini Skinner/Cleaver is designed especially for hunters who need a powerful blade to cut through medium-size bones and perform heavy duty skinning tasks. Deer, sheep and mountain goat hunters, who hunt on extended, strenuous, high altitude expeditions, will find it to be an excellent tool that keeps the equipment weight to a minimum, yet still has enough heft to do field-dressing jobs easily and efficiently. Each Light Hunter is hand made from the same incredibly tough, fully annealed, double-drawn and cryogenically-treated D-2 tool steel as our award-winning Brown Bear. The blade is a full 1/4" thick, just like the big Brown Bear; however, it is 3" shorter. We also added a large capacity gut-hook, so the thick hair of sheep, mountain goats, elk, and big northern whitetails won't "ball up" as experienced with smaller gut-hooks. Handles available include the black rubberized Suregrip, genuine stag, beautiful desert ironwood, and special select presentation desert ironwood.

The Light Hunter
Magnum Ulu
Our Hunter's Ulu and our Magnum Ulu should not be confused with the cheap "tourist" models commonly available in magazines and souvenir shops across Alaska. Our blades are handmade from American D-2 high carbon tool steel, individually hand ground, finished, and sharpened to a hair-splitting razor edge. Our heat treat process is a double draw method and then each blade is cryogenically treated so that the cutting edge is extremely sharp and stays that way even after extended use. Blades are hardened to a Rockwell of 58-60. The Magnum Ulu is built from the same D-2 tool steel and is handmade, just as the smaller Hunter`s Ulu. The only difference between the two is the blade size. The Magnum Ulu is 3-3/8" across, so it is still small and compact enough to be easily carried. The handle size is exactly the same as the Hunter`s Ulu. The choice is strictly between the wider or narrower blade.

Rockwell Hardness: 58-60
Bevel: 18 - 20º
